Printed notices stating what to do in the event of discovering a fire or hearing the fire alarm should be posted in conspicuous positions around the building (placing a copy on the notice boards).

Example notice;

If you discover a fire

  • Sound the alarm immediately.

  • Dial 999 to call the fire brigade.

  • If possible tackle the fire using the appliances provided but do not endanger yourself or others doing so.

If you hear the fire alarm

  • Leave the building by the nearest exit.

  • Close all doors behind you.

  • Report to the person in charge at the assembly point for roll call.

  • DO NOT STOP TO COLLECT PERSONAL BELONGINGS.

  • DO NOT USE THE LIFT.

  • NEVER REENTER THE BUILDING UNLESS AUTHORISED TO DO SO.

  • DO NOT TAKE RISKS.
